Production Planning

In order to ensure that I face no problems with production after Christmas, I shall be using a Canon dos 600d in order to shoot my music video. The Canon possesses two more megapixels than the Sony and belongs to Adam Canning, a member of the band, therefore will be easy to obtain for reshoots of any footage which I deem to be unsuitable for the final piece. The video will now only include one of the original extras planned to feature in order to ensure that no one is missing on the production days which would lead to alterations to storyboards having to be made. The one extra remaining will be Caitlin Whelan who will be presented with band members Jake and myself however not with frontman Adam in order to suggest to the audience that she is the girl he is singing about.

In order to highlight the image quality of the camera, beneath there is a video created by the owner, which presents the quality the 18 megapixels provide.

Issues with Production

One week ago we planned to film the band shots of our video with the Sony NEX 5R however we faced a number of difficulties with the camera and the lack of communication with the owner of the camera lead to the postponement of filming both the performance shots at the hospital and the various band shots at the skate park and surrounding areas today. In order to combat this problem, I have decided that I shall use another camera for the production with a similar quality but simpler functioning. Due to this production will commence just after Christmas with this camera with all propositions, costumes, actors and locations remaining the same.

Final Preproduction Planning

Within this final stage of preproduction, I have also created the opening thirty seconds of my music video, highlighting the shots I plan to use. The opening has been edited on iMovie which will not be used during postproduction as I plan to use Final Cut Pro X in order to give the video a smoother flow through the various cuts I will use. This process has taught me a great deal about the amount of shots I will have to use during production and also the length of shots I will need to acquire due to the frequency of quick cuts between shots. This video only includes the opening shots which will be used from the performance shoot at the hospital due to the locations available, a mock up of the other shots has not been included. This video was also filmed using a Canon FS100 which differs greatly in image quality to the Sony NEX 5R which I will be using in the production stage of this process.
